What Remains of Desire by Marc Tremblay (Original Painting)

*Ce qui reste du désir* (What Remains of Desire) unfolds a series of female presences, each a fragment of the same emotional memory. The work presents not a single portrait, but a constellation of figures and bodies that seem to belong to different intensities of the same being.
The large, colorful figure immediately asserts a vibrant presence; her body appears to be traversed by flows, ornaments, and signs. Beside her, darker figures act as lingering traces—more internalized states of that same presence. The small red rose held by one of them encapsulates delicacy, transience, passion, and loss.
The collage transforms the composition into an intimate reliquary. The title directs the viewer’s interpretation toward the aftermath: not desire in its initial surge, but what it leaves behind—images, inner bodies, and an intensity that has faded yet persists. Thus, the work meditates on what remains of the realm of sensation when bodies drift apart.
