Artwork description
Sooty blacks, red streaks, and fragments of torn material give the image the appearance of a relic marked by time. The paper, canvas, and weathered surfaces extend the bodies’ wounds and make the erosion of their memory visible.
The title upends our perception of the monstrous. The monster no longer represents solely that which threatens or terrifies; it can also retain a capacity for attachment, recognition, and tenderness. The work thus questions what remains of the bond when bodies are transformed, faces fade away, and the human form is no longer familiar.
