Before the faces fade away by Marc Tremblay (Original Painting)

*Avant que les visages s’effacent* explores the fragility of human identity through a
composition made of fragments, portraits, and partially dissolved presences.
The work evokes a wall of memory where various beings and moments
have been gathered together before their disappearance.
The faces appear in different forms: some are distinct, others unfinished,
while others seem already to be slipping into oblivion. This coexistence creates a tension
between the permanence of the portrait and the instability of memory. Each figure seems to struggle
against its own disappearance, as if the act of being depicted were delaying oblivion.
Layers of paper, drips, inscriptions, and raw textures give the surface
the appearance of a palimpsest. The title places the work in a suspended moment, just before
total loss. The face thus becomes the locus of memory, connection, and
identity—the final sign that the image still attempts to preserve.
