A hooded figure stands with stitched lips and a horizontal smear erasing the eyes. Only the chest, shoulders, and the half-dissolved head are visible. The words it cannot speak have found their way out through the skin — *PAIN*, *MORE*, and others, written and rewritten in graphite around the head like intrusive thoughts that refuse to be silenced.

PAIN was made over two days in September 2025, from a place the artist remembers only in fragments. Beneath the surface lie earlier versions — abandoned, painted over, returned to. The layered graphite holds them as ghosts. The medium was chosen for what it does on canvas: grit, dust, dryness — pain not as wound or blood, but as the inward register of something that no longer bleeds, only burns.
