Artwork description
*The Procession of the Forgotten* depicts a world that seems to have survived its own
history. Anonymous, massive, silent figures traverse a ruined space,
like fragments of a civilization of which only traces remain.
The upper section evokes a slow, almost ceremonial march. The figures,
stooped and faceless, appear less as individuals than as
presences bearing the weight of time. Lower down, the space opens onto a monumental
architectural setting where large silhouettes loom over a tiny figure. This shift
in scale confronts the human with something that transcends it.
Paper fragments, fabrics, rough surfaces, and drips transform the work into an
archaeological object. The material itself seems to have endured a catastrophe.
The painting thus becomes a reflection on memory and oblivion, as well as on the
persistence of rituals long after their original meaning has vanished.
