Artwork description
*Sleep After the World* presents a female figure suspended in a space where the
landmarks of reality seem to have vanished. Her body floats above an environment
composed of organic structures, mechanical fragments, and indeterminate forms.
She appears both surrendered to this universe and liberated from it.
Her posture evokes sleep—yet an ambiguous sleep. There is no way to tell whether
this is rest, death, or a transition to another state. Around her, mechanical
elements seem to grow like organisms, while living forms take on the appearance
of machines.
Thick textures, embedded fabrics, lacerated surfaces, and red drips lend the
painting an almost bodily dimension. The contrast between this heavy matter
and the luminous body creates an essential tension. The title places the work
in an impossible time—after the world itself—when only a suspended presence
remains, beyond the reach of what came before.
