Ghost Blossom I transforms the familiar form of a flower into an apparition suspended between botanical observation and abstraction. Through tonal inversion, petals, stems and surrounding structures become pale, radiant traces against a darker field. The image retains enough detail to remain recognisably organic, yet its altered tonal relationships evoke microscopic imagery, X-rays or an imagined specimen from an unknown ecology. Van Beek uses this perceptual uncertainty to explore the threshold between material presence and disappearance, allowing the flower to appear simultaneously fragile, luminous and strangely disembodied.
