Artwork description
Eídōlon, derived from the Greek word for image, likeness, or phantom, represents an unseen double of the self. It is a presence that exists alongside conscious identity and emerges through dreams, intuition, and unconscious responses. In Jungian psychology, the Shadow consists of aspects of the personality that the conscious ego does not recognize or accept, including repressed impulses, traits, and emotions. Rather than being inherently negative, these hidden aspects can become a source of self-knowledge when acknowledged and integrated.
The painting also draws inspiration from Majoí Favero Gongora’s anthropological research on the Ye’kuana, which describes the human double as capable of journeying beyond the ordinary world through dreams. Familiar yet mysterious, this double is inseparable from the self and connected to what lies beyond everyday perception.
