Artwork description

At the edge between life and death, mythologies meet in a shared landscape of memory and transformation.
Europa turns away from Zeus, refusing to accept the fate imposed upon her. In her hand, the apple of Iðunn becomes a promise of renewal and a challenge to mortality. Yet the world surrounding her offers no simple escape from death. Yggdrasil connects different realms of existence, while Níðhöggr gnaws at its roots. Mímir’s well and the river of the underworld evoke the passage of memory between the living and the dead. Quetzalcóatl embodies the possibility of transformation, while the figures from Mictlan bear witness to the journey beyond life.
The seven daffodils introduce a quiet reminder of transience: even beauty carries the knowledge of its own disappearance. The river moves onward, carrying memories across the boundaries between worlds.
By bringing together European, Norse, and Mexican mythological traditions, the work creates a symbolic encounter between different understandings of death and the possibility of renewal.
Europa denies death not because she has overcome it, but because she refuses to let it define the limits of existence. Her gesture becomes an act of resistance against finality—a question about whether death marks an absolute end or a threshold toward another state of being.
