The prey is fast, accelerating away from it’s taloned pursuer. It heads upwards towards the surface, and the growing light, instinctively aware that the legendary creature so close behind will not be able to see it as well.
The Mermaid is intelligent, and an evolutionary specialist. Her senses are tuned to life in the absolute darkness and crushing pressures of the deepest oceans.
She knows she must not be seen by the surface dwellers, but hunger drives her to take risks.
She flexes her powerful body, matching the speed of the prey. Her shoulder muscles scream as she stretches…her talons open…almost there…
