Artwork description
I don’t “suffer” perse from hypnagogic hallucinations, but I do experience them. Particularly when I lay on my back at night in bed, I feel myself fall into the arms of sleep and my body, sometimes involuntarily, opens my eye lids, and behold, amazing figures appear in front of me. My favorite are these beautiful moving figures- weightless and made of light, their thin hair-like limbs float effortlessly. I can’t help but try to reach for them, but, they inevitably fade out and banish into the æther as soon as I come to my senses.
This is the best I can describe them with charcoal, graphite, and acrylic paint.
Sometimes the images I see are not as lovely as these, and often will scare me fully awake. But most of the time, they are complex, beautiful, sometimes silly.
