Twenty five years ago my daughters inspired me to create the very first “mirror-mask” pop-up book, IF I WERE A HALLOWEEN MONSTER, published by Little, Brown & Company in 1999. To my knowledge, there hasn’t been another “mirror-mask” book published in the past 25 years so my concept is a one-of-a-kind original. To enjoy the book, the reader holds the book cover to his/her face and looks through the peepholes into a mirror and sees himself/herself as a Halloween monster through the pop-up masks. Parts of the rhyming text, which incorporates onomatopoeia to encourage imaginative play, are read in reverse mirror writing. Over 60K copies were printed and a few are still available online (ISBN: 0-316-57778-2). I am selling the remaining five hand-painted acrylic illustrations to collectors of unique artworks.
