Artwork description
I am drawn to surrealism as it depicts a world where time is meaningless and gravity does not rule. In my surreal landscapes, objects are possessed by the spirits of positive and negative emotions or are carried by my little hummingbird messengers to add further depth to the story. Hopefully my work will connect emotionally with viewers, encouraging them to unmask these objects to discover their spiritual core and find personal meaning within.
I often borrow Shakespeare’s skull as a vanity symbol in my work when contemplating the meaning of this existence. “To be or not to be – that is the question!” When all is said and done, did our lives make a difference? The key. lowered like bait from above, triggers this desire in all humanity for unlocking truth, to know the unknowable. The floating iris and iris leaves symbolize the hope that life might somehow continue in this barren landscape of light and shadow. The hand bell sits silent under the grasp of the surviving hummingbird who stands guard over his dead partner. The two cents lying in the shadow of the skull represents the our individual perspectives and opinions which matter very little in the end.
