Created for the 3rd INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE COMPETITION of the Biennale Europea d’Arte Fabbrile in Stia.

One short sentence describing the intentions of the artist :
This sculpture consists of three main symbols : the human being, the wings of Hell below, and a process of elevation in the middle and above; this human leaves Hell to reach the light, its calm, serene and confident expression gives us hope for the future, this human being rises to the stars and leaves the darkness for a rebirth in peace.

The theme of the 3rd INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE COMPETITION of the Biennale Europea d’Arte Fabbrile (02nd September 2021 – 05th September 2021 in Stia, Italy), designated by the Organizing Committee, with the patronage of the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, in memory of the great poet Dante Alighieri, for the 700th anniversary of his death, is:
“…e quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle”
(“…and thence we came forth to see again the stars”)
It is the last hendecasyllable with which Inferno closes, the first canticle of the Divine Comedy, the famous poem by Dante Alighieri.
The journey into Hell alternates between strong amorous and political passions, thirst for knowledge, raw images of devils and mythological figures.
In the metaphorical journey towards the light, the verses of the Great Poet make us feel that we are a National Community, giving us a bit of hope: after “the hell of the pandemic” our desire to “be reborn” will lead us to “see the stars”.
