Mictlán is the resting place for the dead (almost all of them). The path there is 9 floors and the journey takes 4 years. There the deceased is received by the Lord and Lady of Death Mictlantecuhtli and Mictlancihuatl.
There are other special resting places for the soul, e.g. for children Chichihuacuauhco, for drowned people Tlalocan and for warriors or women giving birth Tonatiuh ichan.
