F*ck conventions by Geza Baranyai (Sculpture)

F*ck conventions deals with the struggle of humans to adapt behavior and blend in. We are supposed to fit in, to fulfill standards and conventions imposed by former generations in a very different world.
As an artist you are supposed to do things differently which becomes a paradox convention in itself.
Every craft and every process has rules you are not suppose to brake.
If your are supposed to do things differently but should not brake the rules of the craft – how is your work going to be something new and how are going to change preformed patterns and conventions ?

This one of a kind sculpture is entirely handmade. During it´s creation the artist consciously broke almost every rule of ceramic handbuilding techniques such as joining bone dry pieces of clay to wet ones, disregarding drying times, building with uneven thickness, not scoring before slipping, trapping air,…. but still or perhaps exactly for that reason, managed to create a stunning and unique piece of art.
In this way the artwork becomes a metaphor for the patterns of human behavior most people don´t dare to question and blindly follow. A celebration of uniqueness and daring to do things differently in order to find your own way.
