Tony Wheeler Biography

United Kingdom, born 1973

Wheeler's work is an amalgamation of the surrounding environment with borderline surrealist tendencies.

Based in Manchester in the UK, he predominately works in oils on canvas for his paintings and mixed media for his drawings. Making one off originals.

Theres a dark humour to his work. This is something that he likes to both explore as an artist and communicate through his work to the viewer.

Largely inspired by the natural world, there's often recurring themes and characters developed from life experiences making an appearance in his work and a sense of a journey into the unknown.

More recently the element of growth in the natural world is at the for-front of his mind and this is often incorporated into the narrative structures.

Whereas his drawings are often direct and even at times automated, the paintings are developed on the canvas in layers and washes, changing elements along the way. Weaving themselves around the notion of a preconceived idealism and moving from one idea to the next until they come into their own on the canvas. He's continually pushing his work forward & developing his style.
