Mishelle Sherri Biography

My name is Mishelle, and I am a multimedia artist specialising in drawing and paper sculpture. I studied illustration at the University of Hertfordshire and at BHSAD.

For the most part, the things I create are visual riddles that require patience and an eye for detail; every stroke, shape, and colour conceals layers of meaning, inviting viewers to engage in a playful dance of interpretation. My game has no winners or losers because I believe there are no ‘wrong answers’ in the dialogue between art and audience.

My works are like puzzles. Not only because they all consist of small fragments, either drawn by hand or cut out of paper with a scalpel, but because every unique interpretation complements them. Every viewer is my co-author.

Twentieth-century literature is the main source of my inspiration. Most of my drawings and sculptures are based on books that shaped me into the person I am today. Yet my work is more than merely creating a visual accompaniment to literary compositions. My aim is to reimagine them and offer a new vision, all because I believe ideas are alive as long as they are discussed.

But is this the only reason I do art? If I said yes, I would be lying. For me, art is not only a way to explore the human condition but also a cathartic outlet, a tool to externalise my Weltschmerz, and a way to connect with others by creating something they can relate to, at least on an emotional level.
