Netherlands, born 1969
My name is Jeroen Brugman(born 1969 The Hague Netherlands) living and working in Nieuwegein.
During my study Fine Arts/Printmaking at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht(november 1999-december 2002 graduated), I discovered that the process of printmaking offered variations in technique and the possibilities to experiment that I need to express what is in my minds eye.
As a figurative printmaker I have an endless fascination for alienation. I also want to make hidden human emotions visible. The use of multiple faces is recurring element in my work to point out de complexity of the human mind/emotions. I love to use odd angles and omissions in my imaginations. A slightly tilted print can evoke an uneasy feeling to the viewer.
Japanese macabre dance Butoh is a source of inspiration for many years because of the strange body poses and weird face expressions. Also images of furniture and mirrors occur as portals to unknown places in my work.
After graduation I started to search for new materials to combine drawing and printmaking. I have committed myself to drypoint printmaking. I have worked on acrylic glass and now mostly on Rhenalon plastic using all kinds of sanding and scraping tools to create lines and fine skin. It is always a great challenge for me to work with these materials to get the imagination done right and also getting it handprinted to my full satisfaction.
As a visual artist/printmaker I have take part in several expositions individually or in groups in The Netherlands, France and Germany.
