Hans Lehmann Biography

Switzerland, born 1949

I was born in 1949, a Swiss chemist and academic librarian, finally retired in 2014. Since 2010 - encouraged by my wife - I have been working as a painter. I often use collages on canvas, which I work on with acrylic, oil, pigment colours, levelling compounds and other ingredients. Thanks to further training in numerous courses and workshops, I can live out my love of experimentation in our painting studio in Burgdorf/BE. My motto: "A picture is worth a thousand words!"

I have a preference for symbolic, surrealistic, socially critical and anti-religious motifs. My paintings are mostly figurative and inspired by social issues, although as non-denominational agnostic and freethinker, the subject of "religion" also provides me with plenty of inspiration for serious and sarcastic paintings.

I am particularly impressed by artists such as Leonora Carrington, Giorgio de Chirico, Edgar Ende, Max Ernst, Walton Ford, HR Giger, Rob Gonsalves, Frieda Harris, Frida Kahlo, René Magritte, Piet Mondrian, Henri Rousseau, Dorothea Tanning, Tomi Ungerer and Paul Whitehead.

I will not do any commissioned work, work with AI or do digital paintings. My works are handmade!

A special interest of mine is Tarot Art, so I have created my own Tarot Deck, the Mano Cornuta Tarot. Not all cards are Dark Art, but some are very dark! The 80 paintings used as templates for this deck are not for sale, I may need them for professional photographs. Have a look:
