Ellaya was born in Ukraine.
She studied medicine and design simultaneously. Started her artist career in 2020 triggered by global lockdown and her maternity leave, that gave her a deep understanding of her mission and inspired her to make a dream to be an artist come true. As Ellaya has medical background, in art she is focused on such themes as health, conscious living, life and death.
Due to the war Ellaya moved from Kyiv to Lisbon in 2022. In 2023 she started to explore the theme of mortality as a motivation to live consciously.
Ellaya says:
Now, after I went through the depression caused by the need to flee the war, I am investigating the theme of mortality and perception of death as a great motivation to live this life consciously. I believe that art is a kind of international language which can be used to unite people around the emerging problems and help us reassess the attitude towards life and death, and consequences of our behaviour. The most frightening issue for humanity has always been death, but this fear is paralysing, so religious people save themselves by believing in heaven, and agnostics try to transform this fear into a motivation to live. In times of war, the issue of death is more relevant than ever, even in non-warring countries. In war zones, death brings not only fear but also real consequences for the environment that will affect even future generations. I strongly believe that it is time for humanity to stop wasting lives and resources for wars and instead direct it to technological, emotional and personal evolution to finally become a better version of ourselves – human 2.0.
In 2020 she was a nominee for Portal Art prize (Kyiv, Ukraine), in 2021 - for Art Gemini prize (London, UK). In 2023 she participated London Art Biennale where her biggest painting was sold.
